The Hunter: a Novel

by Tana French · 2024

When a scorching summer rolls over a remote Irish village, Cal Hooper—an ex‑Chicago detective seeking quiet after retirement—finds his fragile peace threatened. He has built a life with Lena, a local woman, and has taken the half‑wild teenager Trey Reddy under his wing, guiding him toward a brighter future. The arrival of two strangers shatters that calm: Trey's long‑absent father, accompanied by an English millionaire intent on exploiting a rumored gold vein on the townland. As old wounds surface and greed ignites, Cal must decide how far he will go to protect the boy he has come to love, while Trey, driven by a thirst for vengeance, refuses to be shielded. Tana French weaves a taut, atmospheric tale of loyalty, betrayal, and the costly choices made when family and revenge collide.
