The Favorites

by Layne Fargo · 2025

The Favorites follows Katarina Shaw, a driven young woman determined to become an Olympic figure skater, and Heath Rocha, a foster‑care teen whose bond with Kat turns them into a sensational ice‑dance duo. Their chemistry on and off the ice propels them to fame, but a shocking incident at the Olympic Games ends their partnership. Ten years later, an unauthorized documentary revives public obsession, forcing Kat to confront the rumors, betrayals, and the truth behind their rise and fall. Told in a documentary‑style narrative that weaves interviews, gossip, and unreliable perspectives, the novel explores ambition, love, scandal, and the brutal world of elite figure skating.
