George Eliot

George Eliot, the pen name of Mary Ann Evans (1819‑1880), was an English novelist born in Nuneaton, Warwickshire. She adopted a male pseudonym to ensure her works were taken seriously in a male‑dominated literary world. Eliot’s major works include 'Adam Bede', 'The Mill on the Floss', and 'Middlemarch'. Her writing is noted for its psychological depth, social criticism, and realist portrayal of Victorian life.
